Got Energy?

Do you have all the energy you could ever want and more?  Most people today do not.  It can be tricky, because most of the food that is easiest to obtain in this world acts to sap our energy.  And…that kind of food is highly addictive too.  Which kinds of foods are these?  Simple refined sugars and carbohydrates, and caffeine.

These often feel like they give energy because they feed quick sugar to the blood (or stimulate the adrenals–in the case of caffeine), but that sugar gets burnt up so fast like a poof of sawdust exposed to a lit match.  And most of it has no minerals or nutrition to offer, so it drains us in the end because it requires us to use previous mineral stores to digest it.   These foods take, rather than give to us.

The great news is, there are SO many OTHER incredibly healthy options that actually taste delicious and are appealing.  A great place to begin turning around the energy issue is to eat more complex carbohydrates.  These have a gentle sweet flavor and an energy source that burns gradually and consistently.  Whole grains, sweet potatoes, and brown rice cakes are options.  And there are endless recipes to make these foods irresistably delicious.

Try adding in these foods.  When you do that for a while, you crowd out the other energy sapping foods.  You begin to desire them less.  This is the way to make a change that is in harmony with human nature.
